Purpose of the Position

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you are responsible for managing, automating, and continuously improving cloud and platform infrastructures within a complex and highly regulated environment. You support development and operational teams in achieving reliable, secure, and reproducible deployments and actively contribute to the further professionalization of DevOps operations.

You combine technical expertise with a pragmatic and proactive approach and serve as the point of reference for operational questions regarding infrastructure, CI/CD, cloud platforms, and automation.

Additionally, you play an important role in knowledge sharing, coaching, and the guidance of less experienced colleagues.

Diploma and Language Skills

• Bachelor's degree
• Native proficiency in Dutch or French.
• Professional working knowledge of the other national language (Dutch or French).
• Good professional knowledge of English, both spoken and written.

Responsibilities – Deliverables

• Managing, maintaining, and automating Azure infrastructures according to Infrastructure as Code principles.
• Supporting container platforms based on Kubernetes (AKS), Helm, and GitOps principles.
• Managing cloud networks, security components, access management, and certificates.
• Performing analyses on the existing infrastructure and resolving configuration discrepancies between code and operational environments.
• Implementing and monitoring monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions.
• Actively contributing to the security of platforms and development processes in accordance with applicable security and compliance requirements.
• Supporting development teams with deployment, infrastructure, and cloud-related questions.
• Drafting and maintaining technical documentation, procedures, and standards.
• Ensuring knowledge transfer, guidance, and coaching of new employees and colleagues within the DevOps domain, with the aim of sustainably anchoring expertise within the organization.
• Actively identifying improvement opportunities and contributing to further automation, standardization, and maturity of DevOps operations.
• Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders within an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Contributing to incident analysis, problem-solving, and operational continuity of critical platforms.

Technical Requirements

Cloud & Platform

• Demonstrable experience with Microsoft Azure.
• Knowledge of Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure Container Apps, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and Azure Storage.
• Experience with Service Bus, API Management, and Entra ID.
• Experience with Azure network components, including Azure Firewall, vWAN hubs, Virtual Networks (VNets), Network Security Groups (NSGs), Private Endpoints, and DNS.

Infrastructure as Code

• Extensive experience with Terraform.
• Knowledge of state management, modularization, and version control of infrastructure code.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code across multiple environments (Dev, Test, Acceptance, and Production).

Containers & Scripting

• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of Helm charts.
• Proficient knowledge of YAML, JSON, and other configuration formats.

DevOps & Automation

• Experience with Git and GitHub.
• Experience with GitHub Actions and CI/CD processes.
• Experience with PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation purposes.

Monitoring & Security

• Knowledge of Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, and Grafana.
• Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting.
• Knowledge of RBAC, Managed Identities, OIDC, Key Vault, and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).
• Experience with security scanning, dependency management, and secure development practices.

Assets

• Azure certifications such as AZ-400 (DevOps Engineer Expert), AZ-104 (Azure Administrator), or equivalent certifications.
• CKA or CKAD certification (Certified Kubernetes Administrator / Developer).
• Experience in a regulated or government environment with strict requirements regarding security, compliance, and environment separation.
• Experience with GitOps principles and tooling such as Flux.
• Experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) in production environments.
• Knowledge of Azure Firewall, virtual WAN (vWAN), and hybrid network environments.
• Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Grafana, Azure Monitor, and Application Insights.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and working with Jira.
• Experience in coaching, guiding, or training colleagues within a technical environment.
